We had no idea what the hype about Robbie's of Islamorada was until we visited Robbie's of Islamorada. It was reccomended by a friend to visit here so we read up on the place and seen it was featured on Vogue, The NYTIMES, CNN, National Geographic, and some other places. Well, on our way into the Keys there was a lot of storms so we didn't get to stop. But on our way back out of the Key's we were graced with sunny skies so we figured, why not check it out! I am so glad we went. This ended up being the showstopper of the entire trip that we have been telling everyone about. We paid to go out on the docks and for a bucket of fish to feed the tarpon. We had no idea just how big the Tarpon were going to be and they're massive up close. Even the Pelicans are huge. They're the size of a walking small child with a big wingspan. They are cleaver and sneaky. We noticed the Pelicans target snatching fish from the kids who hold the bucket or really anyone not paying attention. But that's all apart of the fun experience! If I could have pet a pelican I would have. So we weren't mad at them. We did see some teenagers on the dock holding a fish in their hand sideways and letting the Tarpon bite at their entire hand without letting the fish go and they were bleeding on the wrist/forearm afterwards, so there are dense little teeth. I would highly advise against this behavior and those should have been kicked off the dock. We watched the staff seeing them do this while the teenagers were recording one another. It just seemed unsafe and not nice to the wildlife. Overall, Robbie's of Islamorada offer an unforgettable experience. They're fun and family friendly. The docks do get busy but we never felt too over crowded. Lots of people coming and going, you've just gotta get in there. The Tarpon, as big and scary it may look, they're professionals. They did not bite us once and they were so graceful at grabbing just the fish. It's quite amazing! If you get the chance check them out!
