For our daughter’s 5th birthday, we carefully considered many restaurants before finally deciding to celebrate at ROCAS Restaurant. We were excited to try the place because the ambiance is truly beautiful, the design is impressive and it offers a unique dining experience that stands out from many other restaurants in Oman. Unfortunately, our experience was disappointing when it came to celebrating the special occasion. We ordered a cake/brownie dessert topped with vanilla ice cream, as we usually do when celebrating birthdays at restaurants. In most restaurants, it is common courtesy to add a simple birthday greeting or dedication on the dessert plate at no extra charge. To our surprise, the server informed us that the standard dessert, which costs 3 OMR, does not include any birthday message or greeting. If we wanted a simple birthday dedication, we would need to purchase a separate celebration package costing 7 OMR. We found this policy quite unreasonable. We were not asking for elaborate decorations or a special setup, just a simple birthday message on the plate for a 5-year-old child. Because of this, we declined the package and decided instead to buy a candle and let our daughter blow it out when we got home. It was a disappointing moment that took away from what should have been a memorable celebration. As for the food, while the quality was decent, the prices are certainly not on the affordable side. The restaurant follows a concept that is very common across many Asian countries, offering a variety of international cuisines under one roof. Bringing this concept to Oman is a great idea and adds diversity to the dining scene. However, competition in Oman’s restaurant industry is strong, and customer experience plays a huge role in setting a restaurant apart. Overall, ROCAS Restaurant is worth visiting if you’re looking for a new dining experience or want to enjoy its attractive atmosphere and design. However, if you’re planning to celebrate a birthday or another special occasion, you may want to consider other venues that place greater emphasis on making guests feel special without charging extra for basic gestures. For us, it was a nice one-time experience, but not necessarily a place we would choose again for a celebration.
