Unfortunately a terrible experience today for Mother’s Day lunch. The kitchen was very understaffed and it had been 2 hours without our entrees arriving. The manager and waitress were very apologetic but did not provide a solution or an ETA on when our food would be out. Ruined the lunch I took my mom to for Mother’s Day. We have been to Roots Ocean Prime many times, and it has always been a pleasant experience, until last night. We booked a birthday celebration early in the week for Sunday night. When we arrived, to our surprise, with a reservation (and the main dining room not full) we were seated at a booth in the bar. Very disappointing. Who wants to be seated in the bar when you have a reservation and the dining room is not full. We were dressed for fine dining, and to our surprise people in jeans and sweat pants were being escorted past us into the dining room. The service was poor, to say the least. Our waitress, perhaps not having a good night, was very disinterested and inattentive. After the appetizers were cleared, we had no dinner forks. We had to wait for our waitress to pass by to ask for silverware, after our meal arrived and was getting cold. My scallops were room temperature, and my husband’s Lobster bisque was cold. My husband asked for horseradish and instead received some kind of sauce with onions. The waitress did ultimately retrieve the correct sauce but only after a back and forth conversation whereby she insisted she ordered horseradish, and so it must be horseradish. It was not. At the end of the meal the waitress brought a complimentary birthday dessert, which we appreciated, but then she immediately brought the check and never asked us if we wanted coffee or anything else. We told her we would like coffee. She said “oh”, took the check back and had someone else come out and serve us coffee. We have always patronized Roots Ocean Prime for the food, service and experience. This night was a complete disappointment.
