The Rose Tree Inn in Durham is a great place to visit for a meal or a drink. The staff are friendly and welcoming, and they offer a doggy menu so that your four-legged friends can join you. The food is fresh, delicious and reasonably priced, with plenty of Gluten Free options available. The atmosphere is cosy and relaxed, and there's plenty of outdoor seating available on sunny days. They also offer an 'Eat Out to Help Out' scheme, which is a nice bonus. The pub itself is nicely decorated, and the lights outside are always on, giving it a warm and inviting feel. They even have a specials board and doggie treats on the bar. Overall, the Rose Tree Inn is a great place to visit for an enjoyable and comfortable experience.

Terrible food, £50 bill and serious hygiene concerns Unfortunately, this was an extremely disappointing experience. We ordered the mixed grill and homemade chicken curry, with the bill coming to around £50. For that price, the quality of the food was nowhere near acceptable. The mixed grill was particularly bad. The meat was dry, tough and overcooked, and as the photos show, we ended up leaving most of it on the plate. The homemade chicken curry wasn’t much better, with the chicken also being very dry. When you’re paying around £50 for a meal, you expect food that you can actually enjoy and finish. What made the experience even worse was a hygiene concern. I observed a member of the kitchen staff leaving the toilet and, from what I witnessed, they did not wash their hands before returning towards the kitchen. If kitchen staff are using the toilets, proper hand washing before returning to food preparation areas should be absolutely basic hygiene. We left having paid £50 for food we barely ate, and the hygiene issue made an already disappointing experience considerably worse. Poor quality, poor value for money and a worrying lack of basic hygiene based on what I personally witnessed. We certainly won’t be rushing back.
