This little gem is hidden in the basement of an unassuming building. Signage was easy to follow and we took the elevator down into a time warp! The doors open into a antique-feeling speakeasy-like vibe. We had reservations and were sat immediately and greeted simultaneously by our server. The drinks were absolutely perfect and the appetizers of lamb chops were cooked perfectly. Dinner was equally as delicious with steaks cooked perfectly! For dessert we an amazing Smores Pie which was the exact right way to end the night. Overall this place a perfect place for a date or night out with friends who appreciate a good drink with good food and a fun unique atmosphere! Our recent girls' night out at Rough Rider completely exceeded my expectations! Phoenix has a booming underground speakeasy scene, but this place stands above the rest. The experience starts the moment you walk into the Ten-O-One building lobby, step into the middle elevator, and descend into the basement. Going downstairs into the hidden basement to drink completely heightens the ambiance and reaches back to the raw secrecy of the Prohibition era. Rough Rider While the vibe is technically casual fine dining, everyone was dressed to the tee! Most of the ladies wore beautiful black dresses, and with everyone dressed up, it truly felt like stepping right back into the peak Prohibition days. The history here is fascinating: hidden in a transformed, formerly abandoned basement mailroom on Roosevelt Row, the restaurant is a beautifully styled nod to the late 19th century, themed around Theodore Roosevelt and his famous volunteer cavalry, the Rough Riders. The moody, Victorian-inspired space features a gorgeous full-time bar that kept our drinks flowing all night. The bartenders and servers were incredibly welcoming, engaging, professional, and met our every need. The prices are on the higher end, however, it is well worth it for a premium night out. As a meat type of girl, I have to say the food blew me away. The lamb lollipops were my absolute favorite—juicy, well-cooked, tender, full of flavor, and I literally wanted to suck the bones! But even the veggies were to die for; my palate was completely full with the crispy fried cauliflower (perfectly breaded!) and the incredible brussel sprouts. The charcuterie board was also a great share for the girls. Whether you are looking for a romantic date night, a professional business meeting, or a fun night out with the girls, the atmosphere here is unmatched. Note for drivers: you do have to pay for parking in the garage just east of the building, but parking can be validated at the restaurant host stand (just bring your license plate number!). Five stars all the way—highly recommended! Price per person: $60–70 Recommendation for vegetarians: Highly recommend Vegetarian offerings: Large vegetarian selection Parking space: Plenty of parking Parking options: Paid parking lot Parking: There is a paid parking lot however your parking can be validated once you enter the restaurant. Kid-friendliness: Not a place for children. Looking for an adult place with grown and sexy flavor this is it. Very distinguished.
