This is only a review on the baked goods from Royal Bakery & Café, so keep that in mind. Their sandwiches and salads actually looked pretty darn tasty, so I might have to go back and try some of those. As far as the baked goods, we tried the chocolate chip cookies (without nuts), the blackout cookie, a pear and berry coffeecake and a fruit tart. Overall, I can’t really complain, but I can’t really dream about them either. They’re decent, but not amazing. The cookies? Um. Well, they’re adequate. You can probably get some that are very similar from a grocery store. The coffeecake was kind dry. This let me down the most. I get that coffeecake should be dry, as it goes with coffee, but it was dry to the tune of over-baked, not necessarily intentional. As you might expect being in a growing area, the fruit tart had some decent fruit. Plus, the shell wasn’t too shabby, though the custard was a touch eggy. Overall, adequate, but not spectacular.
