Recommended by our Yandex driver, which in Central Asia increasingly feels like the equivalent of Michelin stars. The man barely spoke English but absolutely trusted this place with his whole soul. ️ We arrived at 10:55am during the rain and instantly realised we may have been slightly early. Staff were still preparing, quietly looking concerned about the sudden appearance of English-speaking tourists before lunch service had emotionally begun. At one point we could hear them in the corner rehearsing: “Soup. Soup. Soup.” Which honestly worked. We ordered soup. And thankfully we did. The hot broth, fresh bread, tender meat, and warm tea were perfect on a cold rainy Samarkand day. The simple tomato salad with herbs and onion was ridiculously fresh, the carrot salad had that classic Soviet-era comfort-food feel, and the bread here continues to be dangerously good. Uzbekistan has somehow turned bread into a national flex. We were initially very unsure about the cold yoghurt-style soup drink situation but after watching locals carefully, we realised you drink it alongside the meal rather than treating it like dessert from another dimension. We also tried ordering sausages, but were told they needed a little more time to prepare. Which honestly felt reassuring. Better than a microwave tragedy pretending to be cuisine. One of those genuinely local places you’d never find on your own, and exactly the kind of meal that becomes part of the travel memory. Warm food, rainy weather, confused communication, kind people. Human civilization hanging together through soup and hand gestures. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
