I was super excited to try this new Korean restaurant as I've been waiting for a Korean place to open in Horsham for years and I've just been craving Korean food having travelled there a few times before. Unfortunately my visit ended up not meeting my expectations mostly due to the disappointing service. I visited on a Saturday night and as soon as I arrived I was very surprised with music that was way too loud for a restaurant. I couldn't even hear my friend sitting across from me at the table so I had to ask the waitress to turn down the volume, which she did straight away improving the atmosphere. However, the service then continued to get worse at each step. The waitress who took our order didn't seem very knowledgeable when questioned about the drinks. Then when we finished the drinks she had to be asked to take the empty cans/glasses away. The food took a long while to arrive but if there was one positive thing about my visit to the restaurant, this was it. The food was delicious and authentic so I would still recommend giving Soban a visit just for that. But (there is always a but...) it was very overpriced, with some prices being higher than London's Korean restaurant prices by up to £5 (which is crazy considering how expensive London prices are). Mind you, I went at dinner time so of course their lunch menu is cheaper. That being said, troughout the whole dining experience the waitress did not bother clearing any empty plates so our table was just full of dishes. After finishing our food nobody asked if we're done and want the bill even though the restaurant was almost near it's closing time by now and we were just sitting and waiting around. Overall, there was no check-back and I had to send my daughter to the counter twice to ask for a take away box, dessert menu and the bill because of the inattentiveness of the waitress and her not doing her job properly. In my honest opinion, the girls working there could do with a large dose of hospitality training. While I do appreciate having a Korean restaurant finally open in Horsham, I was very disappointed with my first visit. I didn't even want to pay the 10% service charge because of how bad the service was but I also didn't want to ruin the night even more for everyone so just left it in the end. I do hope Soban's service will improve in the future as it would be a waste for such good food to not be enjoyed! Meal type: Dinner Price per person: £30–40 Food: 4 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 3

Dear Laura, Thank you so much for taking the time to share your detailed and honest feedback about your recent visit to SOBAN. First and foremost, I would like to sincerely apologize for the disappointing service you experienced. A Saturday night can get incredibly busy, but that is absolutely no excuse for the lack of attentiveness, the failure to clear your table, and making you wait around for the bill and takeaway boxes. You should never have had to send your daughter to the counter to get our attention. I hear your feedback loud and clear regarding our music volume and our team’s hospitality. I take this very seriously, and we are already addressing this with our front-of-house team to implement immediate training on attentiveness, menu knowledge, and proactive customer care. On a brighter note, I am deeply grateful for your kind words about our food. My wife is our main chef, and she pours her heart into making sure every dish is completely authentic and delicious, just like the food you enjoyed on your travels to Korea. Knowing that you found the food so delicious means the world to us. Regarding our pricing, as an independent family business sourcing authentic Korean ingredients here in Horsham, we always strive to find the right balance, but we truly appreciate your perspective on this. We are so proud to finally bring real Korean flavor to Horsham, and it would indeed be a waste to let poor service ruin such good food. Thank you for your constructive criticism—it is exactly what we need to grow and improve. We would love the chance to welcome you, your friend, and your daughter back in the future to show you the high standard of hospitality you truly deserved. Warm regards, SOBAN

lovely place, lovely staff and even better, authentic, food. the chef was thoughtful every time we visited, considering our tastes and you could tell he really wanted us to enjoy our food. We very quickly had to visit again after having a very enjoyable first impression. Getting a meal set and a nice Melona ice cream bar to finish was very nostalgic and brought me back to my high school days. i only wish i worked closer by so i could grab a kimbap for my lunches! If you enjoy Kpop demon hunters and want to know what these idols are eating on a regular basis, stop by here to get a taste!
