I've never seen so many people in a Korean restaurant eat with a fork and knife. This review is a tricky one: Staff and cuisine are authentically Korean but there is an interesting translation to the Dutch market here. Basically every single person orders the 양념 (sweet/spicy saucy Korean Fried Chicken) and the other dishes (although decent) seem a kind of afterthought. It's a case of the audience/market defining the restaurant and not the owners themselves, I guess? It reminds me of the Chin Ind. Rest phenomena that in the end just aimed to serve a greatly westernised version of "Chinese" food, adapted to the Dutch tastebuds. Or the countless takeout sushi spots in the Netherlands run by everybody but Japanese people. I would love for Korean restaurant owners to challenge themselves and their guests a bit more by introducing Korean dishes besides fried chicken and bibimbap and thereby deepening Korean cuisine in the Netherlands. It proves incredibly difficult to get decent Korean food in the Netherlands. Moreover the restaurant functions more as a kind of cafetaria, with a touchscreen kiosk at the entrance of the restaurant and you pickup your order after they yell your # at the front counter. There's a lot of in-n-out traffic for takeout orders and such. An upside is that it's quite affordable, as Korean food usually is unusually pricey in Europe. Sadly there is no better option for Korean food in Utrecht. There are no establishments in the same vein as the big 3 in Amsterdam (Hetsal/Hwa Won, Khan, Rest. Korea) or Bapboss in Rotterdam. it is the perfect spot for date night/chill night with friends! the atmosphere feels so warm and welcoming, not to mention the owners are absolutely amazing! we ordered two dishes, the fried chicken (i believe it is smth kimchi i don't rmbr the exact name) and the honey butter fries, along with matcha rice wine! the chicken was crispy and hot, and the sauce was slightly tangy, which is different from what we expected. we assumed it will be a normal korean fried chicken, where the flavour is sweeter, but this was definitely a pleasant surprise and so so yummy! the honey butter fries was hot and crispy, topped with their honey butter sauce which is right up alley! i highly recommend the fries as it's something so unique :) overall we had a great time here! I cannot comprehend how this place such high ratings. The first hot, fatty, saucy bite or two have something satisfying to them if you’re really hungry, but it’s all downhill from there. Half of what’s in the box was grease-drenched batter, and half of the chicken underneath it was tough and gristly. Couldn’t eat more than half the (small) box and felt queasy the rest of the day. It’s not that I can’t appreciate fast-food, deep-fried chicken. I think KFC is quite good now and then. But this? Bah - NEVER again
