It just shows you the power of reviews. I was so looking forward to this restaurant after reading about its "renowned" lobster soup. In fact the restaurant website says "Worlds best lobster soup". It's far from it. The restaurant is very authentic, no frills, it actually could do with a bit of a makeover. But we were expecting excellent fresh fish dish offerings. The lobster soup was watery with not much flavour and the expected 'lots of lobster meat' was not true. Served with a small piece of bread. We also bought a prawn skewer to share. I couldn't wait - so excited. We were served 8 small and rubbery king prawns (that I can get at home from my local Chinese). They were quite tasteless, and I suspect frozen. Staff on the counter were nice though but we left very disappointed. 2 small bottles beer, 2 lobster soup, 8 small prawns. €42. It wasn't the cost that disappointed us (we had expected to pay a high price for food in Reykjavik), it was the experience that disappointed.
The skewers were excellent, but the lobster soup stole the show. We went back for another round. And sitting outside in the sun at 9pm eating all this seafood with a beer was a pleasure.
What a place! Great food, great space, nice staff, super kid friendly with a room dedicated to them. Overall an awesome experience.
