Check out how Sagami-An looks inside
Sagami-An is a dessert-focused establishment nestled in Kyojima along one of the quieter streets. Known for their dedication to crafting traditional Japanese sweets without using preservatives or unusual flavor additives, they seem to hold steadfast to time-honored techniques. Their menu particularly emphasizes items that provide a pleasant contrast to overly sugary counterparts from other cities.

Among the unique offerings, the plum dorayaki stands out with its distinct texture and balanced flavor; clearly appreciated by patrons for its delightful blend of white bean paste and tart plum filling. Sagami-An prides itself on keeping the integrity of ingredients evident in their dishes, such as letting the whole beans remain intact within the paste. Capturing the essence of simplicity and authenticity, these characteristics can be a fresh find for those familiar with classic Japanese desserts.

Open every day except Wednesdays, from 10:00 AM to 6:30 PM, Sagami-An ensures accessibility through straightforward payment options like Rakuten Pay, but it's worth noting their limitations on service like same-day delivery and accessibility features. Ideal for quick visits, it could be a convenient spot for locals with a penchant for desserts. Currently, detailed information from the owner about recent updates or special promotions appears absent, suggesting any prospective visitor might want to explore firsthand what new flavors lie within.

If you're looking for traditional Japanese sweets without any preservatives or weird flavorings, I think this is the place. It seems they have a long tradition of making Japanese sweets with a no-nonsense attitude. It was much tastier than some authentic daifuku in Kyoto I just recently ate. I was pleasantly surprised! The plum dorayaki is not to be missed. The pancake part is like castella cake. It uses white bean paste and there are still whole white beans inside which makes it really enjoyable to eat. Most shops make white bean paste into a fine white bean paste, so you miss out on the actual shape of the beans while eating it. The sweet and tart plum inside was a really great balance. Just watch out not to eat the seed! It was a great match with my morning soy latte at home! The inside chunky red bean, tsubuan, of this daifuku wasn't too sweet, unlike many shop's. I was pleased with it. It tasted soft and nice, even the next morning. I'm kind of hoping that tourists don't discover this place and ruin it with long lines!

Just by chance we were in the street and discovered this little shop. Even without language skills, we could understand each other well and were able to buy delicious, traditional sweets. We would love to come back and hope that other tourists will also get lost here in the streets - it's worth it!
