Ohagi is the most famous local treat in Akiu! It comes in 4 flavors, Anko, Kinako, black sesame, and Natto. Try them all... Natto is an acquired taste with health benefits

The ohagi was seriously delicious Buy some ohagi in the afternoon to enjoy with an evening drink. The ohagi and Miyagikyo highball were amazing My friend ate two servings of natto mochi by himself, so I'll go buy natto mochi and kinako mochi next time

While traveling from Tokyo to Sendai, From Sendai Station, I took a bus to Super Saichi, a shop run by housewives famous for Ohagi. Apparently you can buy it at Sendai Station depending on the day of the week, but it was a Sunday, so there was no sale. It takes about 30 minutes from bus stop number 63 and gets off at Akiu Onsen Sakan-mae. It's just a short walk away. After getting on the bus, I bought a round-trip discount ticket for 1,600 yen. The parking lot is very large, and there are a lot of people who come by their own cars. When I arrived at the store after 10 o'clock, there was a long line from the ohagi section inside the store to the entrance. Ohagi was constantly replenished, so I didn't have to worry about running out of stock. I can't help but reach for the delicious-looking side dishes. By the time I left the store, there was a long line outside. It was delicious at home. The charm of this ohagi is the incredible amount of azuki beans, kinako, and sesame around the sticky rice. As for the taste, it's very simple and delicious, like something your grandma would have made. The volume is also incredible. Still, one piece costs 140 yen. For someone like me who loves ohagi, it's worth going all the way!
