A hidden little gem that a local friend, who is starting a tour business on Awaji, showed me. From the outside it’s unsuspecting, and I would have never stepped inside if not for the introduction. The shop is run by a lovely couple who serve amazing food. Everything is local and delicious, and from what I can understand their limited daily menu is based on what they have that day. But beyond the food, what really made it special was the kindness and hospitality. I feel so fortunate to have been a guest at their restaurant and on this island. In my mother tongue there’s a saying called 人情味, and I feel like this place embodies that. The best translation I can find is 温かい雰囲気, and hopefully it means what Google tells me it does. The warmth, coziness, and kindness I felt here, even as a guest who doesn’t speak Japanese at all, made me feel emotional.
