Food is fantastic! Everything done perfectly and so delicious. The bison smells so great that I almost gave up my vegetarianism. But I did (not this time anyway) and still I had great veggies cooked to perfection (so rare!) and the bread (the bannock) is are-you-kidding-me good! Totally recommend. Will be in my list of places to bring visiting friends and family.
Highly recommend to anyone who want to experience a real indigenous food. It’s a small casual-bistro style setup, really loved the ambience. Lots of interesting native arts from local artists.I had salmon 3 ways sampler for appetizer, it was pretty tasty, served with some fresh bannock crackers. For mains, I had this 24hr slow cooked bison served with roasted vegetables and mash. The bison was to die for, really tender and flavourful! There’re many other dishes in the menu sounded good but I chose the bison and it was pretty DELICIOUS. The staffs are very friendly and knowledgeable, made the whole experience GREAT!! Good luck to salmon n’ bannock and will definitely come back soon!
I just left Salmon n' Bannock and need to write this review immediately, while this A+, 100% experience is still fresh in my brain. I'm alone in town from LA, for a conference, and after visiting the totem poles in Stanley Park and subsequently booking a First Nations walking tour for the next day, decided to round out my theme of learning about First Nations for the weekend by making a reservation at Salmon n' Bannock. I am so glad I did instead of eating sushi. The waitress and owner(?) were both phenomenal and had amazing recommendations. I'd made the reservation a half an hour before, noted that I was just one person, and I'd be there in a half an hour. I walked in and was greeted by the owner asking "are you Melissa??" in the friendliest tone ever, like we were friends meeting for the first time or something. Per my waitress's really fab recommendation, I had the Oolichan appetizer and the Bison Pot Roast, which were perfect recommendations on this chilly 60 degree day.  Just as importantly, both the waitress and owner saw me dining alone and I felt they went above and beyond to engage me, explain to me the community significance of the food, and even provide me with a book of First Nations voices to browse while I ate. I think visiting places like Salmon n Bannock falls under the umbrella of ethical tourism and I encourage every visitor to Vancouver, and hell, every Vancouverite, to eat here and contribute economically to the First Nations communities. It's not like you'll regret it - the food is insane, and the service is spectacular.  You can get sushi tomorrow.
