I had a craving for carne asada fries and decided to give La Salsita Taco Shop a try. Unfortunately, I don’t recommend them….at least not for this dish. It honestly felt like I was just eating a plain plate of fries. There was meat and cheese, but barely any crema or sour cream (I couldn’t even taste it, so I’m not sure which one it was). The cheese didn’t melt right and didn’t add anything….it was just a basic white cheese that came off kind of gross. I really wanted to like it, especially because the staff seemed super sweet and chill. But I had to drench everything in what felt like a cup of salsa just to make it edible. The whole thing was just dry. I asked for no pico because I don’t like how some places go overboard with the tomatoes, and I usually prefer guac instead. I probably should’ve asked how they define “pico” before ordering because I guess no pico means no guacamole…so that part’s on me. Maybe other items on the menu are better, but if you’re craving carne asada fries, I wouldn’t recommend getting them here. If you’re looking for a solid spot, the one on 35th and Bethany still holds it down.
