Sambole Restaurant, nestled in Dambulla on Kurunaegala Road, offers a rustic dining experience with its unique mud hut-inspired decor. Specializing in authentic Sri Lankan cuisine, this establishment presents an array of curries that promise a distinct culinary adventure. Despite its charm, detailed information about operating hours remains elusive, pointing to a lack of updates from the owners.
Diners can expect their meals served in a buffet style, which allows for a diverse sampling of flavors. While the service has been described as unpredictable, past visitors have generally found the food worthwhile. Not comprehensively listed in popular restaurant directories, Sambole maintains only a minimal presence online, notably a sparse profile on Facebook.
Reviews available are dated, with the most recent input being six years old, underlining a scarcity of current feedback or engagement from recent patrons. As such, those interested in visiting might want to anticipate an experience somewhat rooted in history, both in terms of its youthful decoration and unchanging operations.

We visited this place only since we received recommendations from the local people in the area that their food is good and hygienic. However my daughter had the biriyani, and within few hours after eating she started vomiting nonstop and had to be rushed to Emergency unit. The state of the wash basin and kitchen itself was very dirty. I would not recommend this place to anyone at all. Food: 1 Service: 1 Atmosphere: 1

Yesterday we visited Dambulla Sambole Restaurant for dinner, and it was one of the most disappointing dining experiences we've ever had. We ordered 5 egg rotis, 1 portion of yellow rice, and beef curry. The egg rotis had almost no egg in them. The yellow rice had far too much saffron, had no salt, and the gravy was watery and tasteless. The food quality was very poor. The service was even more disappointing. We waited around 20 minutes, which is understandable if the restaurant is busy. However, after making us wait, a staff member came to our table and asked us to repeat our order because they had forgotten it. We placed the order again. When the food finally arrived, it was still incorrect. After we informed them, the staff member took it back with an unpleasant attitude, making us feel like we were causing a problem. To make things worse, our bill included items that we had never ordered. We didn't argue because we felt very uncomfortable. After the way the staff behaved throughout the evening, we genuinely felt that if we questioned the bill, the situation might become confrontational, so we simply paid and left. We have visited this restaurant before, but it has changed completely. The food quality, customer service, and overall experience are no longer what they used to be. Unfortunately, this was a very bad experience. I will never visit this restaurant again, and I cannot recommend it to anyone. Meal type: Dinner Price per person: Rs 3,000–4,000

On 2026.04.18, our family visited Dambulla Sambole for lunch. Unfortunately, the service was extremely disappointing. When we arrived, almost all the tables were dirty with leftover food, and none of the staff seemed to care. We had no choice but to clean a table ourselves and sit down. When we went to place our order, the staff kept ignoring us and walking away, busy chatting among themselves. After repeatedly trying to get someone’s attention, we were informed that rice and curry was not available, so we ordered mixed rice instead. The food was also very disappointing — it had no taste at all and was difficult to eat. To make matters worse, we were given teaspoons to eat the meal, which was very inconvenient. We frequently visit Anuradhapura and Sigiriya and have always enjoyed dining at this place before. However, this time everything was completely unsatisfactory. The staff behaved unprofessionally, loudly talking among themselves as if they were in a fish market, and many customers were leaving because of this. Very disappointing experience.
