Post-mortem... this location used to be a spot that specialized in selling carne asada. I liked the new Argentinian choices on the menu even better though. Eight different specialty sandwiches were offered along with five different types of fried empanadas and five different types of baked empanadas. It's too bad the latter were readily available only on weekdays from 11:30 to 1:00. A couple of salads and beverages were served too. I chose a regular Choripan sandwich ($7.99) which contained an Argentine chorizo sausage. The grilled link was sliced lengthwise and placed between a soft baguette with chimichurri sauce topped with lettuce, onions, and tomatoes. The house made chimichurri was what made this tasty sandwich shine. The version with pickled eggplant (Choripan San Telmo) sounded interesting, but unfortunately the business closed for good after two years.

San Telmo Argentine Café is the hidden gem in Downtown San Diego. I happened to find it while strolling around town, and I believe it was an amazing discovery. I started out drinking Maté tea (which I've always wanted to try) and it was delicious and refreshing. I also ordered the Choripan Sandwich with a side of beef empanada, and it was absolutely mouthwatering. The food was expertly cooked, great plate presentation and very, very tasty. Make sure to get extra chimichurri for your meal, it adds an essential bit of flavor. The staff is also very friendly and always made sure I had everything I needed. They were playing some awesome music from Argentine artists such as Los Fabulosos Cadillacs, which I thoroughly enjoyed and made the vibes even better. Overall, I loved my experience at San Telmo, and I will absolutely come back to try the rest of the menu.
