Once upon a time, there was a Korean restaurant in Arlington that served a delicious Stone Pot Bibimbap. Sadly, the restaurant was sold and the new menu eliminated the stone pot.Fast forward to last Sunday. We had tickets to see Itzhak Perlman in Worcester, and we turned to Yelp & Google to find a good restaurant after the recital. Sapporo Korean Barbecue & Sushi Restaurant and their flock of stars was at the top of the list. The website linked to a menu, and in the upper, right corner was a boxed, highlighted description of their Stone Pot Bibimbap. That was enough persuasion, so we made reservations. This restaurant is located in a strip mall a few blocks east of the center of town in Westborough. Strip malls are never a good sign, but there are all those Yelp stars, so we figured this was an exception to the rule. Then we noticed a banner atop the sign that proclaimed it to be KARAOKE NIGHT. Remember, for context, we are coming from an Itzhak Perlman recital, and we didn’t quite know what to expect of a Karaoke night in a Korean restaurant, so we approached the door. The owner saw us coming, and he met us at the door. An enthusiastic man, he welcomed us into the restaurant, explaining that it was Karaoke night, and it might be a bit loud. Loud is okay, I thought, if I got my Stone Pot Bibimbap.Even before we were seated, the tap handles at the bar caught my attention. There was a subtle little round white handle with the words, “Maine Beer Company. Lunch.” We weren’t going to be limited to Sapporo or Kirin, or some other light and festive lager. The beer taps showed love and respect for folks who appreciate a bold IPA or two (Fiddlehead was also on tap), but I felt no need to explore the rest of the options after I saw that Lunch was on the dinner menu. The owner is a high-energy guy who loves the restaurant, and loves anyone who walks in the door. He’s proud of his food, and pointed us toward things he thought we would love. The dumpling soup had a little bit of egg in a tasty broth. He warned us that some people really love the hot and sour soup, but it is very sour. (It has a strong vinegar punch. I love vinegar, so I am one of the folks who were happy with that soup). There were lots of interesting things on the menu, but we were on a mission to find Stone Pot Bibimbap. It was wonderful. I mean, with a glass of Lunch and a Stone Pot Bibimbap, that alone guarantees a wonderful evening meal.As for the Karaoke, it was much more fun than we could have anticipated. Korean music and images populated the television screens in the dining room as the owner ran around the restaurant with a microphone and a smartphone attached to a large library of songs, trying to entice folks to sing. He didn’t have to go very far, as a group of 10 women were celebrating a birthday, and they were happy to take turns singing their favorite hip hop tunes. They weren’t loud enough to interfere with our conversations at the table, and the happy sounds added to the joy of the evening. This is not the place to come for a quiet romantic dinner. This is a place for some really good food in an atmosphere where you will feel welcome and happy, and its only 40 minutes from Arlington Center. No doubt we will be setting our GPS for a return trip in the very near future.

Thank you so much Paul for this beautiful review. I really enjoy reading it multiple times. You write things so vividly! I am extremely glad you and your friends like Stonepot bibimbap which is one of our signature dish. We will always carry it down the road. I can see you had the Karaoke fun here. Sorry I forgot the lady who sang a song in Japanese. She sang so beautifully, no wonder she is in music area. Actually She is the first guest singing in Japanese since we have Karaoke. Great job! Whenever you are nearby, please stop by and I am looking forward to seeing you soon, -Mike
