I came here for a quick fancy prix-fixe lunch with my sister. We were really impressed by the soba quality and the soba/tempura sets. The showstopper here is indeed the handmade soba noodles. They were an amazing texture (bouncy, chewy, al dente, and a little sticky). The noodles were served chilled with a bowl of warm duck and leek broth to dip into. The broth had a hint of smokiness but wasn't too heavy or too greasy to be accompanied by the giant heap of tempura shrimp and veggies. The tempura was well-fried, tasted light but had a good airy crunch. The restaurant itself is impeccably clean, minimal, and sleek in style. It's incredibly spacious and elegantly decorated. It's such a nice escape from the humming of the streets. We came towards the tail end of lunch and we could sense our server was looking for us to wrap up so he could take his break. The server was not particularly attentive or personable but it was fine for our purpose. We just wanted to be left alone to dip and slurp soba.

I had a fantastic dining experience at Sarashina Horii this evening!  I came to not only try the two types of soba, but to also compare as both cold and hot!  The server was extremely patient with me as I explained what I hoped to do.  And she went back to the kitchen multiple times to confirm how I could be accommodated.  Even when I put in my order - after she warned that I might be ordering too much - the manager (I think) came over to make sure.  What wonderful service ... and both types of soba were very good, cold as well as hot.  The duck I also ordered was also much enjoyed, and the accompanying sauce was terrific!  Oh, and the sobayu was quite good on its own on this chilly evening! Thank you, Sarashina Horii team!
