Teasty, exciting, terrific. we will definately visit again.
Savotta Restaurant Located in the Senate square just across from the all-white Russian church (cathedral), an old church building with green turrets decorated with gold stars that dates from the year XXXX (unkknown), you’ll find a short stretch of a one-story building that houses several quaint local restaurants, which will be sure to both please and tintillate every taste and fulfill the avid desire to sample true Finish cuisine. Upon entering the first floor establishment, I was greeted cheerily by Nina, who would be my server and a friendly source of information about the restaurant’s history and its culinary delights. Nina explained that Savotta is one of five jointly owned restaurants in close proximity—only 3 of which are open during the long winter season. Each of the restaurants specializes in a particular type of local (and yet very cosmopolitan) dishes. I selected the set ‘touristic’ menu that included locally grown ( or collected) mushroom soup, topped with croutons from brown bread, followed by the main course: a selection of traditional shredded and savory reindeer, served over a heaping mound of mashed potatoes, and the meal was capped by an outstanding piece of apple pie — perhaps closer to a strudel, coated in Finland popular linden berry sauce. It was a quiet place to eat in a relaxing ambience, and my fellow tourists were friendly and helpful (taking each others' photos by exchanging cellphones). Thus that's the reason my personage is included in this Google Map review. As I prepared to depart, Nina took a couple of minutes to explain the restaurant’s history and invited me to take s little self-guided tour of the entire restaurant, in particular the rather large basement that becomes evidently quite crowded during the high summer season. One of the photo of my server ( wait staff), Nina, dressed in traditional Finnish costume.
Lovely staff, delicious food.
