Nestled on the banks of the Hunter River, Scratchleys on the Wharf is a fine dining spot that boasts a reputation for fresh seafood and breathtaking views. With an extensive menu that features several non-seafood dishes, Scratchleys offers something for everyone. The decor of the establishment may feel a bit outdated, but the ambiance is pleasant and the tables are well-spaced for safe dining. Prices are on the higher end, but the quality of ingredients justifies it. Scratchleys offers indoor and outdoor seating options, with the latter providing an even more picturesque view of the river.
Some standout dishes include the creamy garlic prawns, char-grilled octopus, and the seafood antipasto. For mains, the yellow curry John Dory and the swordfish are excellent choices. The wine list is nicely balanced and reasonably priced, and the cocktails are also worth a try. Non-alcoholic options include sparkling water and soft drinks.
While service can be hit or miss, Scratchleys' stunning location and reliable food make it a must-visit for any seafood lover.

The staff, particularly Michelle and Charlotte made a special occasion even more special. The oysters were delicious, fillet steak and vegetables cooked to perfection, rounded off with creme brûlée— thanks for a wonderful experience. Exceptional spot to have the best seafood around! Apparently there are dolphins some nights swimming around and a lovely pelican. My daughter and I had the pleasure of eating at Scratchleys and the atmosphere, food and service was absolutely spot on. Our meals were served hot and both our dishes were delicious. We are definitely coming back. Thank you for a wonderful experience. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Order type: Dine in Meal type: Dinner Price per person: $100–120

It made for a very enjoyable and relaxed dining experience. We’ll certainly be recommending Scratchleys to friends and look forward to dining with you again soon.
