Allow me to set the scene. I thought we were going in for a nice, classy dinner at a hip new spot in town with supposedly amazing drinks. They had us walk over to a low “patio furniture” coffee table. You had to crouch over to eat or even read the menu, which, has very small lettering in almost darkness. If you don’t have 20/20 eyesight, bring a flashlight. It was so absurdly loud in there that the servers had to yell to be heard. Is this supposed to be a nightclub or a restaurant? Okay, there are people dancing in the back which can be fun, but does it need to be blasted throughout the whole massive dining room? We ordered food all at once thinking it would be paced like every other restaurant in town does, but they brought everything to the table at one time, starting with kefta which should be eaten hot but also sushi that should be eaten first as it’s a lighter flavor. The sushi was unique, I liked how they used real crab in the California roll and I did appreciate the fried dough ball that came with the kefta. They brought the sushi on a little cart and then acted surprised and a little affronted that we would ask for chopsticks and soy sauce, which then took another 5 minutes to arrive to the table. (If you sell sushi, why wouldn’t you just have the soy sauce on the table already?) We also got the grilled oysters, which arrived to the table room temperature. They had good flavor but I’m used to them being scalding hot so I was a little concerned with food safety practices. Last, and definitely most disappointing, was the $68 dollar strip steak (which they charged $70 for on the bill) that arrived unseasoned, cold and medium/medium well when I ordered medium rare. It was accompanied by a piping hot plank of fried eggplant on top, indicating some serious miscommunication and/or lack of warming lamps in the kitchen. After I said something the second time the server asked if it was okay, she did say she would have had them make another one, but I was already over the place by then and didn’t want to waste another piece of meat. Anyone could have seen it was overcooked by looking at it, I shouldn’t have needed to even say anything. Overall, It’s a neat idea and I might return in a few months if they’re able to get it together, but it does seem like a cash grab currently. We got the three bourbon based drinks on the menu and none were worth mentioning, especially at that price point. If it was a homely mom and pop shop I wouldn’t feel the need to be so honest in the review, but it was a $240 bill, at that point they need to be open to criticism. They also added an “operating fee” of almost $7 I guess for a credit card payment? Since when is it the consumers job to pay for your business to be run? The servers seem to be doing the best they can with this chaotic environment. Price per person: $100+ Food: 3 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 2 Vegetarian offerings: Large vegetarian selection, Clearly labeled vegetarian dishes

Chic Mediterranean Restaurant around strip district. Awesome ambience and decor, happening and to be place to hang out on a Friday night or the weekend. Service was pretty decent too. After 10pm apparently has an open dance floor. For the food, not necessarily a large menu, portions are small and pricey. Great place to try out once for sure. Their Kaffaiti Chicken was delicious. Lamb Koftas were okay. The mushroom hummus again was great! Price per person: $30–40 Food: 3 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 4 Vegetarian options: Limited Veg options

Came back to Pittsburgh for a little birthday celebration and found out the Strip District has a brand new lounge. Sea Monkey is such a cute spot and brings a fresh new vibe to the Burgh. From the moment we walked in, the energy was there. Great service, super friendly staff, and even the nicest security team which always sets the tone for the night. This review is based on drinks, ambiance, and overall experience since we didn’t eat, but everything we had was great. The cocktails were on point and the vibe was even better. The space is stylish, fun, and yes, even the bathrooms are cute. I usually take pictures of my drinks, but I didn’t take a single one because we were having such a good time from start to finish. It is loud, but that’s to be expected with a spot like this. If you’re planning on deep conversation all night, this may not be the place. But if you want good drinks, a packed dance floor, and an overall fun night out, Sea Monkey is it. It honestly felt like the finest people in Pittsburgh were all in one room. Can’t wait to come back!
