Best Experience In The World. I’m lucky to have traveled extensively over the past 20 years and visited many countries, eaten delicious food and stayed in unique places. This is the one experience out of all that stands out. It’s simply the best all around experience in every category. The Grounds: Perfectly manicured in the middle of the forest, far from any city lights, crowds or noise. You consistently hear a gentle mountain stream that flows through the property, which we found incredibly calming at night when falling asleep. We stayed in the beautiful hydrangea room, set in traditional Japanese style with a private bath. We found the bedding to be very comfortable. The Food: This is Michelin star quality dining!!! The chef, Mr. Takashi Ono trained in Italy, Switzerland and Canada and is an expert craftsman in presentation, taste, and quality of ingredients. Bluefin tuna cheek, local wagyu from Kyushu, Kagoshima pork, Jidori chicken, fugu, sea bream, mackerel and more of the best and freshest sashimi you will ever eat. I was confident the food would be excellent but the chef blew away all of our expectations. The setting is simply the most beautiful dining room, with large floor to ceiling windows overlooking the forest, rocks, and koi pond. Beyond being a best in class chef, Mr. Ono is incredibly kind and personable gentleman who spoke with us throughout our stay. We enjoyed getting to know him and he went above and beyond to connect with us, but also customize the food to any type of preferences we had. He was so thoughtful and generous and one of the reasons why our stay was unbelievable. The Hospitality: I understand traditional Japanese ryokans featured staff who are dedicated to providing superb hospitality and care for guests. Seiryuan took that to a new level with the wonderful, Mrs. Yukari Hiraki. Her warmth, patience, generosity and kindness were never forced or mandatory – she was always genuine and an absolute pleasure throughout our entire stay. She made us feel comfortable and relaxed and we similarly enjoyed getting to know her. She painted a floral portrait that the ryokan printed and uses to wrap chopsticks – we loved it so much we are now hanging it in our home. Mrs. Hiraki took such great care of us from carefully explaining each dish in intimate detail to taking photos, to ensuring the room was cleaned and serviced. You will not find this depth of hospitality and true human connection anywhere else. If you’re debating a visit, don’t think twice. Book it and you will not regret it. My wife and I stayed for two nights in mid-January 2026 and had a wonderful experience. The surrounding environment was peaceful and quiet — exactly what we were looking for. The staff were extremely polite and professional, and the service was truly top-notch. Check-in and check-out were very smooth, and they assisted with our luggage all the way to our rental car, which we really appreciated. They also made the extra effort to translate into English using their phones, so communication was never a concern. Both dinner and breakfast were kaiseki-style and absolutely sumptuous — beautifully presented and delicious. Our room was very clean and comfortable. A truly memorable stay, and we would gladly return again. Service: 5
