Literally a one-minute walk from Kaminari-Mon, this hidden gem is a landmark storefront you don't want to miss. Using traditional techniques, the artisan owner manually creates the most intricate, traditional Japanese confectionary (often catering to local tea ceremonies and seasonal celebrations), which pairs harmoniously with any Japanese tea (but ceremonial Matcha and Sencha green teas are my favorite with these!). Reasonably priced with limited quantities per day, this is the shop to stop by whenever you're in Asakusa, and you want to treat yourself or to purchase the perfect souvenir symbolizing the deep history and complex culture of Japanese confectionary. Though both only sold seasonally, my top recommendations are the Kuri Yokan (steamed red bean cake with chestnuts) and Hina Arare (colorful rice crackers with mixed nuts/soybeans for the annual Girls Day festivities). The shop has a calm atmosphere, and the owner is knowledgeable and soft-spoken. It has the atmosphere of a long-established store, and the perfection of each confectionery is amazing. We also recommend half-fresh sweets.
