For a few weeks now I've been seeing rats at the trash cans and in the parking lots every evening. There are none in the service station building yet.

A paradise for rats, rats run everywhere after dark! I come here once a week, I just have to stand in front of the entrance for 5 minutes and then I have to run away because rats are running around everywhere.
