My friend and I are both natural foods gourmet chefs and are traveling together in Europe. We consider eating the foods of the region we are in to be a pivotal part of our travel experience. Sete elevated our experience to the stratosphere! They greeted us and made us feel so welcome, figuring out, first off language we spoke to assign our menu and waiter. They took regional dishes and creatively re-invented them. I had the feijojada where mushrooms brilliantly replaced heavy pork.....for once I could eat every bite in one sitting. I have several food sensitivites, which they expertly accommodated......I could even have a rich dessert, Abade pudding with lemon sauce and salty almonds, that had no dairy or gluten and was delicious. My traveling companion had the crunchy sardines with a risotto and she cleaned her plate. Her dessert choice was pineapple carpachio with Jamaican pepper and coconut ice cream .....I heard her moans of pleasure with each bite. We started with the Seven Flavor Salad with Muscatel Gelatin......my friend ate my portion of the cheese and I ate her portion of the prosciutto and we both marveled at the extraordinary taste of the greens, grapes and tidbits of gelled muscatel cubes. We're thinking we'll go back....I have my eye on the octopus dish. Oh, and our waiter gave us great suggestions for a Fado performance and sites to see. We practically planned our whole Coimbra stay based on his suggestions. Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Meal type: Lunch Price per person: €20–25 Vegetarian options: The mushroom feijojada is what I had Dietary restrictions: They accommodated my gluten, dairy and soy sensitivities. It was nice. Obviously I must have offended the hosts asking to speak Portuguese and not wanting a table in the middle of the room crowded by families. My plate compared to others was cold and thrown together.
