I remember hearing about Shakey's when I was a kid, but never tried it. I was reminded of Shakey's while scrolling on Reddit, so I decided to plan a visit. I went for the pizza buffet. The slices were quite narrow, but that means you get to try more variety. The pizzas kept moving, too. As part of the buffet, there was also potato wedges available (spicy, or plain -- I skipped), macaroni, different kinds of spaghetti, dessert pizzas, rice, soups, and a drinks bar included in the 90-minute session. I tried Coke orange for the first time, and I dare say I liked it. There was also a dessert bar with jello and pudding and yoghurt and stuff, but I skipped. I tried the corn soup. I know - soup at a buffet - but corn soup is a staple in Japan. I skipped the rice because I didn't see it until I was already full. I reckon I'd eaten my money's worth by the first half hour and several trips to the pizza section, but they make it really hard to stop because they keep offering something new every 5 minutes. The mentaiko spaghetti wasn't very spicy, but the noodle was al dente just like the other two spaghetti dishes I tried (basilico and Neapolitan). Standout pizzas for me were the mushroom pizza (king oyster), and the quattro cioccolata which had chunks of chocolate brownie on it. Getting there on the Keio Line was a learning experience, but now I know. 4 stars for the pizza because it was good, but it was not quite 5-star worthy. Some very inventive combinations.
