Tucked away on Panchi Kawatta Road, "Shalimar" operates as a pub and bar in Colombo. Despite existing for years, its presence in prominent restaurant directories is nearly non-existent, except for a brief mention on Zomato. A name change to "Sri Ram Restaurant" has reportedly occurred, yet there is no confirmation or official update from the management to account for this shift, leaving details a bit murky.
Back when visitor reviews last surfaced roughly seven years ago, patrons noted the availability of reasonably priced dishes with a focus on Chinese cuisine. However, the absence of recent feedback makes it challenging to gauge the current dining experience or any menu changes. Regular operating hours span from Monday to Sunday, 11:00 AM to 10:30 PM, hinting at a consistent schedule that suits both locals and travelers seeking varying mealtime options. Visitors intrigued by this locale may want to explore it themselves, given the scarcity of up-to-date information available online.

What tempted me to visit Shalimar is nothing else, but the review of {uid:29320498} :). I was lately trying to find restaurants that serve liquor during the day time, and discovering that Shalimar is one of those very few places was really a big deal to me. So {uid:29320498} , thank you very much. :D
Shalimar located in Panchikawatta Road Maradana, a few steps ahead of the legendary Buriyani place "Hotel De Buhari", but at the opposite side. It has three floors, and the restaurant is established in the ground floor. The other two floors are allocated for accommodation, and we saw that many foreigners were walking in and out from Shalimar.
Visited this place on a week day for a lunch and by the time we arrived there, I was really surprised to see that we were the only customers in the restaurant. But by the time we leave, the restaurant was filled with customers. This place is not air conditioned, but the atmostphre is quite nice.
The most highlighted feature I noticed at Shalimar is that they have a big crowd of regular customers, who are very much familiar with the menu and staff. They were actually giving ideas for the food they ordered, like even how to cook them. :) It was surprising and really pleasant to see that the staff is very much flexible with those conditions.
Serving booze for a cheap price is another special feature in Shalimar. More importantly, its an open bar during the daytime. So in my opinion, cheap booze and good food is one hell of an elegant combo. :D
The menu at Shalimar is pretty wide. From Appetizers to desserts, they have given a pretty extensive choice to their customers, so it does not matter that you favor veg or non-veg food, Shalimar is a place that you can visit without any hesitation.
Our choice went for the Seafood Chopsuey with Rice, and as drinks a medium size Coke and an Anchor 625ml bottle. The Seafood Chopsuey with Rice is totally enough to fill up two hungry bellies, and that Chopsuey was absolutely mind blowing. It was consist of freshly prepared potatoes, beans, carrots, and cabbage which are perfectly boiled and cooked , and they served it with seafood mixture by covering the whole plate of rice. First I was kind of worried since I found little too much pepper on it but once I tried it with a glass of Beer, I felt like that it is the best thing about it. It was refreshing, and made my lunch an absolutely perfect.
It was kind of disappointing that they charge Rs.100 for a medium size Coke at Shalimar, so I think it is better if you can try your food with the booze available at their bar, or else with some fresh fruit juices that they make right after you place your order.
The staff at Shalimar is really helpful while choosing the best food that goes with your appetite. They are open up to suggestions, so if you want to make your food customized in a manner that you prefer, they will work on it.
Honestly, Maradana is not a town that people like to wander unless they have to buy some spare parts to a vehicle, to get some work done from an office or else to visit to see a stage drama at Tower hall. There is no clear reason for that, but as I see it is a town that covered with dusty old buildings and street shops but nothing to be entertained about. But it is amazing how Shalimar has been able to stand out and enchant the foodies to visit Maradana area not just for anything, but to try out the affordable, elegant food they serve with day time booze. :)
