I decided to try a different local Chinese restaurant instead of my usual choice J&P and unfortunately, it was a disappointing experience. I ordered the Chicken with Broccoli in Garlic Sauce with white rice. The dish included several additional vegetables, such as large peppers, split peas, and onions, which were not mentioned or expected. More importantly, the sauce lacked flavor and had very little garlic taste. The white rice was overly wet and mushy, which negatively affected the meal. I also ordered fried cheese wontons, but no dipping sauce was provided. Lastly, I ordered the Shanghai Fried Rice, which was by far the most disappointing item. The rice was wet, mushy, and appeared undercooked. It also had an unpleasant smoky flavor that overwhelmed the dish. Overall, this was one of the poorest Chinese restaurant experiences I have had. Based on the quality of the food and overall experience, I would not recommend this restaurant. In my opinion, it was not worth the time or money. Food: 1 Service: 2 Atmosphere: 2

So good. Had the spicy beef noodle soup, scallion pancake, and some steamed soup dumplings. Everything was sooo fresh and I was very impressed. Will be back! Price per person: $10–20 Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5

Fookaneez Rating: 7.8/10 We Fookaneez food up. Shanghai Bun in Matawan transports you to a whole new world with its authentic atmosphere and welcoming staff. The lunch specials — like the Kung Pao Chicken and Beef & Broccoli — are a fantastic deal at $8.25, served quickly with perfectly cooked rice. The homemade spicy wontons are a must-try, and the complimentary hot tea — oolong, I believe — adds a special touch to the experience. Our total meal came out to just over $26, which made the whole experience feel like a steal. Overall, it’s a hidden gem that’s definitely Fookaneez approved. And trust us we Fookaneez’d this food up.
