Whenn I used my BOA Visa card for more gas, the price for regular jumped up 11% from $274.9 to $304.9 after I swiped my card. This is an outrageous ripoff, as the posted cash/Shell card price was $274.9.
I bought the minimal amount, and left. Then called Shell corporate to complain. I explained that merchants should not charge more than 3 or 3.5% for CC purchases, as their rates can be from 2.4 to 3.5% max for a VISA transaction, fees included. I know this from years as an merchant myself.
The Shell CSR emailed me a 25 cent per gallon discount code for my trouble. The Indian store owner lost out on a larger gas purchase, plus we had planned to grab some lunch there, but his greed infuriated me, so we went elsewhere.
I checked our local Mobil station and they are NOT doing this CC upcharge ripoff, but I will be watching for this from now on. It may be illegal, and to me, its basic "bait and switch". Buyer beware.
