Service and ambiance were pleasant, and the fish itself tasted fresh, but I’m genuinely confused as to how this place manages 4.5 stars. The portions are so diminutive that it honestly feels like a sign of financial distress. The sashimi slices were comically paper-thin, and the 'Thai Fried Rice', while surprisingly presented in a normal-size bowl, was entirely flat and flavorless. My wife joked it must have come from Trader Joe’s frozen section down the block, but it can’t be since those actually have flavor. Food: 1 Service: 4 Atmosphere: 3 Price per person: $60–70

As we have experienced since the pandemic the wait service at Shinsei as many other restaurants has degraded. Otherwise the Shinsei restaurant delivers great food at a $$$ price and the ambiance is pleasant.
