After being out at a fall activity on a Tuesday night, my husband and I chose Shogun for dinner as it is a restaurant in our new town that we had yet to try. Arriving around 8:30pm, the restaurant was very open with only one group of patrons at the hibachi, and a few people at the bar. We sat at the bar and we're quickly attended to by Vicky. My stoli doli martini was very refreshing, and we were given a few minutes to read the expansive menu. Wanting a little taste of everything, we ordered crab Rangoon, mozzarella sticks (ha!), pork gyoza, avocado maki, and a crazy tuna roll. Our order came out within 10 minutes and everything was fresh, hot, and tasty. The crab Rangoon were the best we've tried in the area, and the sushi was very flavorful. Vicky was attentive throughout the night, and we put in a to go order for chicken pad Thai and a house fried rice. While the fried rice was good, the pad Thai was oddly spicy and in a red sauce - it is unlike anything I'd seen in one of my favorite dishes, and was too spicy for our taste. I deducted a star because the actual restaurant itself is in need of some TLC. Why it didn't appear dirty necessarily, the bar stools, chairs, and booths were tattered; there was a very sad looking stage in the main dining area, and the menus were also in rough shape. With a small investment, they could really make it much more inviting. While it probably won't be in our usual rotation, it is a great option in the area with tasty food and friendly staff.
