Bib Gourmand: good quality, good value cooking.

The name Shōyu – a type of Japanese soy sauce – is a clue as to what they serve at this tiny little shop, which specialises in classic ramen dishes. If you ever tried real Ramen in Japan, you can tell Shoyu is actually trying to be more authentic and going into the right direction, which makes them different from all the other so-called Japanese “ramen” restaurants in Riga. We ordered karai miso, fried chicken (karaage) and gyoza. Karai miso has all the correct ingredients, soup can be little bit more flavorful but hits the spot still. Fried chicken was okay, however gyoza is definitely not what I expected. It was beautifully presented however the filling is not gyoza filling, feels like eating burger patties ... It’s a pity. The service is weird and abrupt as some people already have been saying. Young lady server was attentive and friendly but the male server was not welcoming. Also, they put away dishes immediately after we eat, it’s almost like chasing us to get out. Overall, ramen itself is probably the best one in Riga but not sure if it’s worth the price because of their weird service.
