We did the Chocktail experience last Friday (04/09) and absolutely loved it. The cocktails were really yummy and the chocolate pairings complemented the flavours very well. Our waitress, Claire, was very bubbly and provided excellent service. Will definitely be visiting again :). Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5 Price per person: $60–80

Small Print is a quirky little bar tucked beneath the main walking street of Brooke Square, and we recently visited for their Chocolate Cocktail Pairing experience. Unfortunately, what started as something we were genuinely excited about turned into a rather awkward and disjointed experience. First Impressions.... There was very little direction when we arrived. We stood awkwardly at the bar for and then were seated and waites around 15 minutes before anyone approached us. We were eventually asked if we were ready for the chocolate pairing, almost as though we had been sitting there for no particular reason. While waiting, I approached the bar to ask for a food menu, which unfortunately resulted in another awkward interaction. The menus were pushed towards me, but when I started taking one of each, I was abruptly asked, "What are you doing?" I explained that I was looking to order food, only to be told that I couldn't take one of the menus because we weren't there for that experience. It wasn't exactly the warmest introduction. Good to Know.... The cheese smell inside the bar is intense. If you're sensitive to strong food aromas, be prepared, your nostrils are going to get a serious workout! Chocolate & Cocktail Pairing.... Thankfully, once the actual experience began, things improved. Well... sort of. The start was again rather chaotic, with chocolates delivered to the wrong table and drinks appearing at the opposite table. There seemed to be some genuine confusion about who was serving whom and which table was receiving what. Once we got underway, however, the concept itself was enjoyable. We were given an explanation of how to approach each pairing, including which way to drink the cocktail and how to enjoy the chocolate to bring out the different flavours. The chocolates themselves were absolutely divine. I'll certainly be making a trip to Sue Lewis Chocolates in the future after experiencing them here. Of the four cocktails, two were beautiful and really complemented the chocolates. The other two were extremely strong and simply weren't to my palate, although others may feel differently. A nice touch is that once you've chosen your favourite pairing, you're served a full-sized cocktail of your preferred drink. Areas for Improvement.... For me, the biggest opportunity isn't actually the food or drinks, it's the experience itself. This is marketed as an experience, yet we left feeling more like a number than guests. There was very little engagement throughout the evening, and the overall interaction felt transactional rather than personal. The service also needs significant attention. From the lack of direction on arrival, to the awkward menu interaction and the confusion with tables and orders, there were simply too many small moments that took away from what should have been an enjoyable and memorable experience. I'd also love to see an opportunity to purchase a box of the paired chocolates at the end. It would be a great way to extend the experience beyond the bar and give guests the opportunity to take a little piece of it home. Would I Recommend It?.... Hmm... I'm torn. The concept is great, the chocolates are exceptional and two of the four cocktails were genuinely enjoyable. But an experience should feel like an experience, and unfortunately ours felt more like having cocktails with friends than participating in a curated chocolate and cocktail pairing. I hope our visit was simply an off night, because there is a really enjoyable experience hiding here. With more attentive service, better organisation and greater engagement with guests, Small Print could turn a good concept into something genuinely memorable.
