I had heard so many great things about Smiley's Burger Club that when I found myself in Decatur, I finally had to see what all the hype was about. Let's just say... I was completely wrong for waiting this long! With Decatur WatchFest '26 celebrating the World Cup in full swing, the energy around the area was incredible. Between the crowds, the local businesses, and the overall atmosphere, everything just felt alive. Smiley's fit right in with that perfect neighborhood hole-in-the-wall vibe mixed with a welcoming small-town community feel. I loved it. Now for the food. I started with the Fried Cheese Curds served with the Hatch Green Chile Ranch dipping sauce, then ordered the Double with grilled onions, Smiley Face Fries, and an extra side of Smiley Sauce. I'll be honest... I was so excited to eat the burger that I completely forgot to take a picture! That burger was easily one of the best smash burgers I've ever had. The beef was perfectly cooked with an incredible crust, and the Smiley Sauce took it to another level. Every bite was packed with flavor. The Smiley Fries were crispy on the outside with a soft, fluffy potato center, making them the perfect side. The Fried Cheese Curds were seasoned and fried perfectly, and they paired amazingly well with the Hatch Green Chile Ranch. Smiley's Burger Club absolutely lived up to the hype. Great food, great atmosphere, and a place that feels like a local favorite for all the right reasons. I'll definitely be back soon to work my way through more of the menu! If you’re looking for an old-school smash burger done right, Smiley’s Burger absolutely delivers. From the moment we walked in, the place had a fun, laid-back atmosphere with colorful artwork, bright yellow tables, and a unique vibe that made it feel welcoming and different from your typical burger spot. The burger was outstanding. The beef was smashed thin with perfectly crispy edges while still staying juicy inside. The cheese was melted just right, and the soft toasted bun held everything together without falling apart. You can really taste the quality of the ingredients. Sometimes simple is best, and Smiley’s proves you don’t need a long list of toppings to make an incredible burger. The seasoned fries were fresh, hot, and crispy with just the right amount of seasoning. They paired perfectly with the burger, and the dipping sauce was a great bonus. Everything came out quickly, and the food was served hot. One of my favorite touches was the baseball cards that came with the meal. As a baseball family, that was a fun surprise and something you don’t see at other restaurants. It’s little details like that that make the experience memorable. The self-serve condiment station was clean and well stocked, and the restaurant itself was neat despite being busy. The staff was friendly, efficient, and happy to answer questions about the menu. If I had one small suggestion, it would be to offer a few more topping options for those who like to customize their burgers. That said, the burger is so good it honestly doesn’t need much. Overall, Smiley’s Burger is a place I’ll gladly visit again. Great food, generous portions, fair prices, and a fun atmosphere make it easy to recommend. I've heard so much about this place and it definitely lives up to the standard. If you looking for a smash burger this is the place. I ordered the double and some smileys and the special sauce is divine. I dipped my smileys in it thinking I would use ketchup and never got around to that. The price is comparable or just slightly higher than some other places but absolutely worth it. It's outdoor seating so on a nice spring or summer day it's a whole vibe for sure. You can add some other things to your burger like grilled onions, bacon bits.... But truth be told the mark of a good burger is the basics. Nothing like meat, cheese and a bun! That's it's. They have some slushy drinks and floats as well which I plan to try on my next visit. Totally added to the list for my weekly burger fix.
