I wanted to share a lovely experience I had recently. Two weeks ago, I went to watch the Turkey-Romania match, a qualifying game before the World Cup. Before the match, I decided to stop by the Social Table Coffee Shop in Taksim Square. The decor from the outside was so inviting that I couldn’t resist going in. Upon entering, I was warmly greeted by a friendly young woman and a gentleman at the coffee bar. I asked for a coffee, and they welcomed me with such enthusiasm. I’ve had coffee in many places across Taksim and Istanbul, but the coffee I had at Social Table was truly amazing. What made the experience even more interesting was that the young man serving me was named Kerem Konuk. I was surprised to hear his American accent when he spoke, and I learned he attended school in Chicago. It’s clear that he has brought a piece of Chicago culture, along with American coffee culture, to Taksim. If you ever find yourself in the area, I highly recommend visiting the Social Table Coffee Shop. It’s a great place to enjoy a delightful African-style coffee.
