Sit down at the counter and be prepared to have the best tonkatsu of your life! I imagine the owner/chef has been perfecting the art of making pork cutlets for years (decades?) and you won’t be disappointed. It all starts with you grinding sesame seeds into a small dish to enhance the katsu sauce. The whole experience just gets better from there. You can instantly change the flavor profile of your perfectly fried cutlet by adding a dab of wasabi or mustard or salt. The cutlet has been prepared with the utmost care and comes out delightfully crisp on the outside and tender and juicy on the inside. This small restaurant is easy to miss and a 10-min walk from the station but don’t overlook this hidden gem in Funabashi. The owner and wait staff will take great care of you. Note: I had a large bottle of Sapporo beer which paired well with the meal and this pushed my meal to just over 2000 yen - well worth it! My wife and I always love to stop by here whenever we vacation in Japan. The cream cheese chicken is what I personally recommend with great portion size and comes with miso soup, rice, pickles, and two small dishes. The service is always very quick with the helping staff always friendly and ready to go. The atmosphere is very cozy and clean with decorations of famous people that have eaten there before. I was suddenly in the mood for tonkatsu, so I walked from Funabashi Station to visit Somaru-san, which had high reviews. It was said that it would open at 6pm, so I arrived about 10 minutes early and was wondering what to do, but when I saw that the curtain was hanging, I entered the store. The two people who just walked in seemed to be regulars, so they took me to a tatami room in the back, and I was guided to a seat of my choice, so I went to the counter at the far end. The friendly manager introduced us to the recommended tonkatsu. The menu said it was a set meal, so is this just a set meal? When I asked about it, the answer was yes, you can also make it separately! It's 200 yen off! That's what I wanted to have some alcohol, so I asked if I could have the recommended item separately, and she understood! The reply was Then two customers. The food will be brought there first. Is it a reservation or a regular customer? That's what I thought and held back. After an hour, the two paid and left. Still, I waited, thinking it was my turn next. However, after another 20 minutes, the manager sat down and took a break. Do you still have what you ordered after getting numb? When I asked, I was told that I had been waiting for the customer's order for a long time. So I said, ``I'd like what you recommended,'' right? When I said that, I asked if I wanted rice, but after that I definitely didn't ask for the order. No, I understand, right? . . Besides, where are the people who go to a tonkatsu restaurant just to drink alcohol? If the order is delayed, isn't it normal for the customer to take the order? I'm not here to listen to small talk between the regulars and the staff. Is it because you came in 10 minutes early? ! Was it because I sat where regulars were supposed to sit? ! Is it because I turned down the cheap bottled beer and went for draft beer? ! Is it because a young guy came to a store like this in the first place? ! Because I said that this kind of thing really happens with Tabelog? ! (I haven't had any other conversation) What did you dislike about me so much? Anyway, this is the first time I've ever been to a restaurant that made me feel like this, so I apologize for the low rating. I don't really understand, but I'm grateful for the hour and a half I spent with a small beer and a highball. I apologize for the inconvenience the other day. I tried not to remind them to order so that they could take their time, but I somehow missed it.
