Souvlike is a hidden gem in the heart of Cheddar Gorge — an authentic slice of Greece that took us completely by surprise. The food was nothing short of 11/10 on every count. It honestly felt as though there must have been a Greek grandmother tucked away in the kitchen — and there was! For our family, of four adults and a hungry teenager, we ordered two mixed platters for two. The portions were so generous, try as we may, we simply couldn’t finish. The leftovers were just as delicious, the next day. To be clear, every dish was outstanding: the chicken was tender and perfectly seasoned, the sausages were a revelation, the lamb was melt-in-the-mouth, and the homemade sauces tied it all together beautifully. Quite simply, everything was faultless. The setting itself is quaint if not a little on the intimate side — we found ourselves having to keep our voices down — but that only added to the charm. From what I can tell, there are plans to expand the space. Either way, the atmosphere felt warm, authentic, and welcoming. Prices are very reasonable for the quality and quantity of food served, so come hungry. We also learned the same family runs La Rocca next door, which is home to some of the best Italian food you’ll find outside of Italy. Clearly, this family knows great food. A word to the wise then, if you’re visiting Cheddar Gorge, do yourself a favour: skip the fish and chips and head to Souvlike. You’ll leave with a full stomach, a smile on your face, and with plans for your next visit. You can thank me later .
