I met a group of friends here last Friday for lunch. It was my first trip to Star Bar & Grill and I was looking forward to trying their tenderloin. I grew up in Iowa and I'm all about the pork tenderloin. So we all arrived and started to trickle into the restaurant. Needless to say this place was busy. It was a Friday and there are not many restaurants in the small town of Fairfax, so we weren't at all surprised by that. We were, however, surprised to find out that one of the two tables we had reserved was given to another group. They told us "that's just how it has to be." I was under the impression that if you reserved two tables you actually got two tables. So while some of us were eating at the table, others in the group were forced to start their meal at the bar and came over to the other table when the group had finally finished and left. Despite that problem, our waitress (who appeared to be the only one working at the time... why I don't know) was extremely friendly and actually did a good job of serving all of us considering how much she had on her plate. The food was just okay. I was looking forward to the tenderloin, but it wasn't very good compared with others that I have had recently. It's a flavorful standwich and was in no means bad, but it wasn't very memorable. The fries were also just okay. They were hot but really oversalted. They messed up on a couple of orders within the group, including my dad who ordered onion rings and was given fries. They fixed it, but as busy as they were it took a while for him to get them. Overall, the food is okay, the atmosphere is not too bad and the service was quite good. Would I go back there again? Yeah, I'd probably give them another shot if I'm ever back in Fairfax. Star Bar & Grill was alright, but it was not a memorable dining experience.
