I had a mobile order today an hour before closing. Once tasting the coffee in the car, I tasted sugar and I never put sweeteners or syrups in my coffee as it often creates a mild allergy reaction. I have returned to the barista and explained that my coffee tastes sweet like whipped cream. Generally, Starbucks baristas remake it no problem, no argument. This time around, the barista started proving to me that nothing except espresso and milk was added. So I kept pressing and asked if maybe whisking the milk made it sweet. The barista kept insisting nothing sweet could have been added, and as a last crazy point which I ve never seen before, he opened the lid and poured some in the other cup to show me that shots are in the drink, he closed the lid and moved the drink back to me. At this point, I started doubting my taste buds so I drank it again, not just the foam as I initially did but espresso itself. I told the barista again that it is sweet, tasted like syrup, and only then he offered to remake it. The remade drink did taste right. As I exited Starbucks, I started having a mild allergy reaction as I assume the syrup was added or possible a spoon from another drink was used on mine, I can only speculate. It is not a big deal about cross contamination, I understand my risks. What I don’t understand is why I have to stand for 5 minutes at the counter to prove that the drink is made wrong and then have to try it again because i think that I am going crazy after barista keeps proving themselves right. Never happened to me in Starbucks before, super disappointed.
