Attended a small luncheon for about 12 people in a reserved dining room. First, party was to start at 1pm. Arrived shortly before 1pm and door is locked and no lights showing through the windows. They didn't bother to unlock the door until someone called the number listed on their website. Meanwhile, everyone had to stand outside and this turns out to not be a good neighborhood. BTW, you can either park on the street or in the DG parking lot. Once the door was unlocked, the guy disappeared and we had to wander around through various dining/bar areas and figure out where we were to dine. The entire time we were in the restaurant we only saw two staff and no one else. The decor is very old and dated. Fortunately the restroom was clean. We found a room that had a buffet set up so we assumed (correctly) that we could be seated. We had salad, fried chicken, ham, potatoes and veggies. The food was mediocre and only somewhat warm. Dessert was slices of various cheesecake. Between the sketchy neighborhood, the locked 'restaurant', no parking, mediocre food, etc. I cannot recommend this place. This place was chosen based on the previous good reviews, but none of us could understand how they were earned. The 3 stars I gave them is quite generous. Good morning Tod and Laura. Thank you for your lengthy review. We have been here since 1986 and we take ALL commentary seriously to the point of detailed investigation which is one of the keys to our continued success. Your luncheon ( party ) was scheduled for arrival at 1 PM. Your first to arrive was at 12:30.( this vehicle had the balloons ) and parked in one of our THREE well lit and paved parking lots. The next to arrive at 12:40 were a mini white and black SUV followed by a white pick-up which chose to park on the street at the front door. The lights were turned on at 12:30 as well as the music and video screen. The front door was opened 5 minutes early at 12:55 and the first 5 guests were directed down the hall to the banquet room ( no one wondered around the lounge nor anywhere else ). , your last guest arrived at 1:20. You state that there was no one else to be seen except for two servers but you negate to count the bartender, Three adults to serve 12 guests is more than adequate. Additionally, you state that you saw no other folks in the place. That is because this 200 seat facility was set aside for your group with attention to keeping all else excluded. The food was put out at 12:50 at 180*f into pre heated chaffers. Food consisted of our locally famous chicken ( which your fellow guests raved about, as well as freshly peeled and steamed parsley potatoes, freshly steamed Broccoli, Cauliflower and baby carrots ( California blend )Whole mussel ham from Tennessee ( not lunch meat ) as well as an amazing tossed salad ( not our words, your fellow diner words ), To state mediocre is, well, a misleading opinion not a fact! Alcohol drinks were served at 1:24 and food line-up was at 1:34. Tips were generous as in satisfaction and guests departed at 3:49. Guests hung out in front of this "SKETCHY" ( your words ) neighborhood for average 30 / 45 minutes to say goodbye, just for the record, this is Wilmerding, one of the first boros in the USA to become incorporated ( this is where all the brakes for trains are made on the planet Earth ), Tod and Laura, I am sorry that we did not live up to your personal expectations, but to paint us, in your view, as mediocre, is , disappointing at best. And, thank you for acknowledging our cleanliness and a PS, the antiquity of our furnishings is deliberate and a part of our attraction and charm! In closing, we are just middle class hard working Americans , struggling to stay afloat, not part of the blessed elite, and one of the reasons that our country still exists with all of her faults. Please have a blessed and safe day and best wishes to you and your family and friends.
