I honestly can’t recommend Topkapi Palace highly enough. We visited for dinner after hearing so many good things, and it completely lived up to the reviews. Located on London Road in Hazel Grove, Stockport, it’s easy to find, with parking nearby, and from the moment you walk in you’re greeted by a beautiful, modern restaurant with a warm Turkish atmosphere. The décor is elegant without feeling pretentious, with comfortable seating, tasteful lighting and a lovely ambience that makes it perfect whether you’re on a date, celebrating a birthday or simply enjoying a meal with family or friends. The menu has an excellent variety of authentic Turkish and Mediterranean dishes, so there’s something for everyone. You can choose from hot and cold mezze, freshly baked bread, charcoal-grilled kebabs, mixed grills, lamb chops, chicken shish, seafood, vegetarian dishes, burgers and traditional desserts like baklava and künefe. Everything is cooked fresh to order, and you can really taste the quality of the ingredients. We ordered a selection of dishes to share, including a mixed grill and mezze, and every single plate was beautifully presented. The meat was incredibly tender, perfectly seasoned and cooked over charcoal, giving it that authentic smoky flavour you only get from a proper Turkish grill. The rice was fluffy, the salads were crisp and fresh, and the homemade bread was still warm when it arrived. Every element on the plate complemented the others perfectly. The portion sizes are extremely generous, so you definitely won’t leave hungry. Considering the quality of the food and the amount you receive, I thought the prices were very reasonable. Most main courses are around £19–23, with mixed grills from around £23, while starters and mezze are generally under £10, making it excellent value for money. What impressed me just as much as the food was the service. Every member of staff was friendly, welcoming and genuinely attentive. They checked in at the right times without being intrusive, made sure everything was exactly as we wanted it and created such a relaxed, enjoyable atmosphere throughout the evening. It’s clear they take pride in looking after their customers. You can also tell why this restaurant is so popular for birthdays and celebrations. The atmosphere is lively but not noisy, making it easy to enjoy conversations while still feeling like you’re somewhere special. I can imagine it being just as suitable for a romantic dinner as it is for a larger family gathering. Overall, this was one of the best Turkish meals I’ve had in Greater Manchester. Between the outstanding food, generous portions, beautiful surroundings, reasonable prices and exceptional service, it’s somewhere I’ll happily return to again and again. If you’re anywhere near Stockport, Hazel Grove or Manchester and enjoy authentic Turkish food, Topkapi Palace is absolutely worth visiting. It deserves every one of its five stars.
