Stayed here for one night but never again !!!!! Starting with the very steep staircase to the bedrooms and the narrow doorways (a struggle with luggage). We just dropped our luggage in the room and went off to a prearranged function close by. When we returned to the room we started to notice the smell from the bathroom drains which became very unpleasant during the night. The noise from the fairly busy road was loud and constant and not helped by the windows not being able to fully close and no double glazing. The Skye TV wasn’t plugged in so was difficult to find where to access it. The tea/coffee drawer was dirty and only had tea bags and no coffee. The actual bed although comfortable was very low and difficult to get up from. We thought that breakfast was included in the price but were informed it wasn’t and checking the prices we were glad we didn’t eat there and checked out and ate elsewhere instead. Overall the whole hotel looked tired and shabby and in need of a complete refurbishment.

This has been my third visit to the Sun Inn in Dalkeith. Although quite close the main road, this room receives virtually no traffic noise. The bed was comfortable however there were no mattress topper. I slept very well each night. Since my last visit, the service standards at the Sun Inn appear to have dropped. The meal times on the website and the in house signage are totally wrong. This inconvenienced me. The staff member with whom I engaged at check-in seemed totally disinterested by this fact. On Monday evening, I returned to the hotel about 21:00 and the main entrance was locked and in darkness and there was a sign on the door saying that the premises were closed for the evening. No warning had been given at breakfast. Breakfast was of quite good quality and ran until 11:00. The breakfast process was a little confusing as only a menu-based table service was available. Items were high quality Twice I sought a meeting with the manager of the establishment to discuss my experiences and at no stage did anyone come back to me On a positive note, on my last morning I selected the full breakfast but asked for some items to be excluded. The server came back and asked if I wanted to add any extras. Staff in general were not warm or friendly and, at check out, there was no attempt at conversation and no satisfaction check whatsoever. I was allowed to just walk away without any attempt at a farewell. The opportunity to create a positive final impression was lost.
