I had a very bad experience at this specific Superstitions Java today. I was to meet a UNR colleague there and arrived at 2:52. I only got several steps through the door when the young women behind the counter across the room literally barked, "What did you want? We're closing in 8 minutes." I said I was looking for a friend I was supposed to meet there, and she said coldly, "I didn't see anyone. We're closing at 3:00." It seemed clear that she didn't want to have to make a drink in her remaining time. I have rarely been treated so rudely by the employee of a business, so I feel compelled to share it here. I work right across the street and won't return or recommend the place to the many faculty, staff, and students with whom I interact, so this singular but severe act is significant for the business. They don't seem to have a developed website, so I couldn't contact the owner to share my experience. My colleague, who was just arriving, and I walked a few blocks south to Buzzed Coffee, where we were practically treated like royalty. I had been to Superstitions Java once before and found the drink I got to be adequate, the parking satisfactory, and the atmosphere mediocre (not cozy in my estimation), but I want to reiterate to business owners how crucial their employee behavior is because we have many choices of where to spend our money, and welcoming, respectful behavior is a huge factor in our assessment of a service. Addendum (1/25/25, original message 1/19/25): I am adding to my review after seeing the owners' response, which is shocking because it doesn't acknowledge at all the barista's very bad behavior, which would have shown on the supposed video. The fact that the owners took no responsibility whatsoever for their employee's behavior and misrepresented what happened in their description is unbelievably unprofessional and magnifies my negative impression of the place. I do not recommend supporting a place that is capable of mistreating customers--regardless of whether or not that might be a single act--and, worse yet, not taking responsibility for it. I’m sorry you did not find yourself loving our cafe. Our website is well developed over 6 years now including our social media tik tok, instagram and facebook with 6 years of following customers able to reach our amazing Veteran local owners instantly! Our many options for seating include comfy wingbacks, bojo chairs to tables from indoor to outdoor and our extremely large parking lot make our cafe a top destination. I’m sorry you were unable to locate your friend, you would had both loved our gourmet drink selections known as the most unique in Reno and students and faculty love our abundance of usb charging outlets. Lovers Latte is our current trending customer favorite! It is not often we see on camera a customer screaming at our amazing baristas but did review footage to discover your behavior. Perhaps you can return when you’re having a better day.
