Many of the Google reviews of Susukino Sushi Kin are wildly inaccurate—for a more complete picture and proper expectations for any restaurants in Japan, please refer instead to reviews on Tabelog. Unlike many of the other high-end sushi omakase options in Sapporo (see: Sushi Sai Wakichi, Sushi Shota, Sushi Sohei, etc), the emphasis at Susukino Sushi Kin is indubitably on nigiri—and to a certain extent, sashimi. If you are looking for extensive tsumami courses, then you are much better suited looking elsewhere. However, for a pure, unadulterated sushi experience, Susukino Sushi Kin hits the mark. A note on what other reviewers perceived to be anti-foreigner sentiment: I made it abundantly clear to the chef that I was not Japanese, and even with that understanding, he still conversed extensively with me in English—even going as far as to offering ramen recommendations. The other foreign reviewers who received “negative” treatment may be better off looking at themselves in the mirror. I would highly recommend that any sushi purist dine here—in fact, this restaurant will become a staple in my list of must-visit restaurants the next time I return to Sapporo.

Since this was the only omakase restaurant with decent Google reviews where I could get a reservation within 10 days (most others require 1–2 months), I decided to try it. Overall, I don’t think the price matches what was offered. There was no sea urchin, no shrimp, and no crab—just 11 or 12 pieces of sushi. Toward the end, the course felt rushed and even ended with a pre-made dessert, which was disappointing. For the same price, I can get better and more delicious food in the U.S. It was fine to try once for the experience, but I don’t think I would come back. Food: 2 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 1

Had pretty high expectations. The flavours were only decent. Lacking some flavours on the sushi. Chef and the environment was very nice. But just wish there were more variety in the sushi for the price and there was no dessert other than the Tamago cake. Not bad but wouldn’t come back.
