Rarely do I leave a review. But this place really set me off. In my younger years I worked a good 12 years in the restaurant biz, so I do have a eye for things right and wrong. This place is a what I call a "fleece the customer" establishment. They cut so many corners, they are literally fleecing the customer. Review of what my party had: Gator Tail, Sweet-n-Spicy style - decent flavor, but 50% of the "nuggets" were just pure cornmeal with the slightest hint of meat. It's an easy buck for the restaurant to skimp on the frozen food like that. Coconut Shrimp dinner - literally tasted straight out of a frozen prepared box. Small size frozen shrimp with a strange after-taste. They looked like the small frozen shrimp Publix passes off in their deli area. I had intended to order their "world famous fish and chips" but when I was told it was swai I had to decline after I stopped laughing. $22 for a swai and fries dinner? Folks, cost for a swai fillet at a restaurant would be about $1, if that. $22 for their "world famous" fish and chips that cost them maybe $4 to make. This is the fleecing I'm referring to. So I went with what I thought would be a safer bet.... Grouper sandwiches - this really got my blood boiling. Grouper sandwiches are probably my favorite seafood item in all of FL, I try them everywhere. This was probably one of the worst examples I've ever had. The small fish fillet was literally thinner in thickness than the breading that coated it. It was a joke, tasted terrible and for $17 should have been better. Obviously frozen from who knows what country. So sorry, Swamp House RiverFront Grill will not be fleecing me again. Food: 1 Service: 3 Atmosphere: 3

My wife and I had lunch at the Swamp House, and a chalk board upon entrance advertised $6 Margaritas. The tab at the end showed $18 for our two drinks. Questioning the manager, he said that the board listed only select flavors. I checked, and that was the case. From entering to ordering, I failed to recall which specific flavors (or if they were limited just to those) were discounted. The waitress rattled off all the flavor choices and my wife and I settled on the same flavor. Apparently our choice wasn't discounted. Margaritas weren't on either of our minds upon entering; it was the board that caught our attention. Had the waitress mentioned the price differences or that only limited flavors were discounted, we would've selected a different flavor. It was not a $9 drink—mostly ice and how much do ice cubes cost? I felt that since we gave the restaurant good business with what we bought for lunch, the manager could've made the minor adjustment to the bill to satisfy his customers. Regardless of the flavor, it was the same alcohol and same amount, so adjusting the bill to reflect the discounted flavors wouldn’t have been a big hit their bottom line. The experience left a sour taste in our mouths that was sourer than our Margaritas, so I don't expect we'll be returning there anytime soon.
