Friendly service and great quality from this local family owned business. They always have something new and I have yet to try something I don't like. Especially enjoy the cinnamon rolls and sugar cookies.

After recommending Sweet Roots Bakery in Weiser to multiple community members and people planning special events (including as recently as last week), I unfortunately feel the need to share our recent experience so others don’t find themselves in a similar situation. It's incredibly important to support local businesses, and I fully understand that mistakes and misunderstandings happen. Because of that, we always communicate privately with the business owner first to try and resolve any issues. However, given the circumstances — and the fact that we have referred others to this business — we feel it's only responsible to share what happened and the results that followed. To be transparent, this review is based solely on our personal experience ordering two custom cakes for a recent celebration of life and does not reflect on their baked goods in general. The sheet cake designs were discussed two weeks in advance with Sweet Root's owner, Dani. One cake was supposed to include a karaoke machine, a slot machine, and design elements that represented her love of friends and family. The second cake was to have a rustic theme with a hay truck, tractors plowing, and a side-by-side. Dani herself confirmed all these design details ahead of time via FB messenger. On the day we were scheduled to pick up the cakes (Friday), we were told upon arrival that they were running behind and that the cakes would not be ready until later that evening. The alternative offered was delivery the following morning. Since we live in Cambridge and could not wait around several hours, we opted for delivery. We gave a preferred delivery timeframe, and Dani confirmed that her husband would deliver the cakes to our event location by 10:00AM. At 11:15AM the cakes had still not arrived, I called Dani to check in, and they ultimately showed up around 11:30. Unfortunately, when the cakes were received, we were incredibly disappointed to see that the majority of the design elements that had been requested, discussed, and confirmed were missing. The cakes looked nothing like what had been agreed upon, and the results appeared so rushed and inconsistent that they were not even displayed during the celebration of life as originally planned. When our caterer attempted to cut the carrot cake in the back to serve as slices, she informed us that it could not even be plated because the slices would not hold their shape and immediately fell apart. I reached out privately to Dani to discuss the multiple issues we experienced. There was no acknowledgement of the missing design elements that had been specifically requested by the family members, and the only resolution offered has been a $50 refund. The total for the two cakes was $162 before tax. Because payment was made in advance, we paid just over $200 total, which included a tip added on top of the cake cost. Once the tip portion is removed, a $50 refund effectively represents only about $22 of the actual cake price (or a refund of roughly 14%). Given the significance of the event the cakes were ordered for, the entire experience with Sweet Roots has been a big letdown. While I wish I could say we will continue recommending them in the future, unfortunately that will not be the case. Food: 1 Service: 1

Thank you for sharing your experience. For custom sheet cakes, design ideas are interpreted as simplified buttercream artwork based on the themes discussed. Because buttercream decorating is done by hand, multiple elements are often represented through a design interpretation rather than a literal checklist of items. In this case we were also happy to provide complimentary delivery the following morning so the cakes would be fresh for the event.
