First time ordering from this place and we just ordered the 100pcs for the 5 of us and still had leftovers. The sushi was very fresh and thick and very filling. The packaging was also very nice throughout the the gentleman that took my order was very nice and patient. Will definitely return and strongly recommend!!

I'm back again a year later and what has changed ... I placed an order of 30 pieces for pick up at 5:30 pm.  I accidentally show up a whole hour late and they tell me to give them five more minutes because they're making me a new platter.  So, you're telling me, you've once again sold the original platter I ordered to someone else and I have to wait for another 20 minutes there for a new one. I mean this is just a sign for me to not ever come here again.   Very mediocre sushi but it's affordable in comparison to other sushi places nearby, offering platters with similar items.  Such a shame.

Have you ever seen a 6 year old who just started playing hockey using a $300 composite hockey stick meant for pros? This analogy perfectly describes what Check-in Tokyo is all about. As the restaurant emphasizes on the availability of many air flown ingredients, the fish and seafoods are undeniably fresh, however just like my analogy, no matter how good the ingredients or tools are, it requires an excellent practitioner to make magic. While the fish were fresh, the chef's knife and cutting skill is just not up to snub. Firstly the salmon sashimi were cut way too thick. It made it extra difficult to eat and you can't really savor the freshness of the fish if you can't really maneuver it in your mouth. The hamachi had a similar problem where the slices were way too large. It was impossible to eat it with one mouthful. Not to mention that some of the slices were not fully intact and had clearly been mistakenly scored or pulled apart. In addition in between slices of the hamachi you can still see the skin or membrane still stuck between two slices meaning that the cut was not fully clean.   The $13.99 Kaisen Don certainly provides value with three huge slices of salmon, three big slices of hamachi, three slices of scallop, one huge botan shrimp and a small hill of fish roe.  Seasoning in the rice was so so and I recommend them to increase the amount of rice. I practically ran out of rice to complement the remaining sashimi towards the end.  Wasabi was of the regular potent paste variety that had a very strong horseradish kick to it. Service here is mediocre. I do understand that they are a new business and are still working out the kinks. But there were several things that will affect the business going forward. They had a pretty young gentlemen manning the cash and he has to refer back to the flyer to check the prices and really didn't give you the sense that he knew what he was doing. When I ordered they told me to come back in 15 min and that's what I did and hovered around the cash area. It took like 5 minutes of me standing around the cash area before they handed me the take out. Also from overhearing customer's phone and physical orders, I think they also have a hard time dealing with the demand with only one chef working. A gentleman entered the store around 5:20ish to order a platter and they asked whether he could come back at 7 to pick it up. If you plan to give this place a go, call to order well in advance. I'm picky so I need the freshness in ingredients and a chef who knows what he or she is doing. Other than circumstance this may be my one and only time here. Remember kids start with a cheap wooden stick and work on those fundamentals!
