Well, the weekend’s over. As I drove to the day’s final destination, I felt that old familiar hunger pang begin to strike. Defeated by the lateness of the hour and the impending work week, I found my way to the neighborhood Taco-Rama fast food joint. Resigned, I pulled into the parking lot. Much to the Taco-Rama’s chagrin, I immediately caught the odor of grilled meat and exotic spices perfuming the air. In the parking lot immediately next to the Taco-Rama were three, count them, three beautiful food trucks: One selling Venezuelan burgers, another Mexican tacos, and finally a Peruvian truck. Although it had the most traffic, I chose the tacos from Taco Fiesta El Chigon. The space smells terrific. The people seem great, and the customers were even spicier than the food. Suddenly, a slick dark sedan pulls into the parking lot. Its doors open and a large gentleman with a fanny pack strapped across his chest, wearing Mountain Dew socks and Michael Jordan slides, asks me what’s good. “I don’t work here,” I said, “but if I did, I think I’d go for the tacos.” He apologized, opened the other door to his car, cranked some really great Chicago trap, and ordered a burger. Now, it was a fiesta. The crowd seemed to liven up, and everybody smiled; the music soared. Customers danced in their seats as they ate and, expectantly, I buzzed for my delicious taco and quesadilla. Bidding the accidental party and newfound friends adios, I wound my way home, battling the incredible smells wafting through the thin plastic bag and Styrofoam clamshell that promised multitudes of ravenous satisfaction. The beef taco was served on a freshly made tortilla with fresh lime, and the pico had plenty of cilantro, which I love. The beef quesadilla? It’s a beef quesadilla; one of the most perfect creations on God’s green earth, and Taco Fiesta’s version is a stellar example! Served with guac, sour cream, and fresh pico de gallo, the humongous quesadilla, cut into thirds, will be enough to make a satisfying lunch tomorrow. It is freshly grilled, crispy in all the right places, melty when you bite into it, and a real power punch of flavor, especially when combined with the orange hot sauce serendipitously added to the bottom of the bag. Delicious and dangerous! Just like food trucks themselves, I guess. You never know what you’re going to get. Tonight, I got a party, a fiesta, and now that I’m home, enjoying the fruits of my adventure, I can heartily say that I highly recommend Taco Fiesta El Chingón Food: 5 Service: 5 Atmosphere: 5
