Today's lunch was at Taikoen Garden near my home. There is only one purpose: the mysterious onion set meal. I ordered a large serving of rice and gyoza. The restaurant is almost full at 12:00 on weekdays. I barely managed to slip into an empty seat at the counter. There is disinfectant at the entrance, and there are no screens. There are 3 people working in the kitchen, including the master, and 1 person serving the meals. Although he is relatively old, his movements are brisk. Each order is made one by one, so you may have to wait a while. If you're in a hurry, it's not suitable for you, at least not during the day. Today, the gyoza and onion set meal arrived in about 20 minutes. The gyoza are bite-sized, but the meat juice spreads in your mouth and is delicious. Onion set meal is a green pepper soup made with shredded pork and onions. Not only is the seasoning mild with pepper, but it's also made with onions instead of green peppers, so it has a very mild flavor. You can enjoy the sweetness of onions. On the other hand, it is somewhat unsuitable as an accompaniment to rice. So when I poured chili oil into it, it was reborn into something completely different. The spiciness of the chili oil, the sweetness of the onion, and the umami of the pork come together harmoniously to complement the rice. The combination of sweetness, spiciness, umami, and fat makes the rice go all at once. Nowadays, onions are soaring in price (maybe 5 to 10 times more expensive than the same amount of green peppers), so an onion set meal that is 50 yen cheaper than a green pepper meat and thread set meal may not be a great order for a restaurant. However, I would like to commend the originality and challenging spirit of the onion set meal. It was a feast!
